The Daily Ritual of Preparing Flowers

While In Bali, Indonesia a number of years ago I observed that the locals all participated in preparing flowers and rice as offerings to the gods on a daily basis. Every home, business, and park has a spirit house, temple or altar where the offering is placed. On special holidays, even more elaborate offerings are produced. Here the young lady prepares and fills small, handwoven bamboo plates with colorful flowers and rice as offerings to the many altars around her home and the village temple.

I love this ritual because it shows the importance of celebrating beauty and gratitude daily. It is a connection to the natural world that often goes unnoticed in our hectic urban lives. The act of working with flowers on a daily basis is a simple practice with endless unseen benefits.

Join me in a daily practice of celebrating flowers, nature and beauty.
